Judy Angelica Johnson (Gonsalves), a devoted servant of faith and family, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, in Providence, Rhode Island. She was 79 years old.

Born on June 5, 1945, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Judy was the daughter of Julia Santos-Gonsalves and Raymond Gonsalves Sr. After Julia’s passing, Raymond remarried Mahalia Berry-Gonsalves. She built a meaningful career that reflected her dedication and work ethic. Judy began her professional journey at the James L. O'Neil Law Firm before joining the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles. There, she rose through the ranks from clerk to supervisor—a testament to her diligence and leadership.

Judy’s life was deeply rooted in faith. A proud and active member of Hood-Shaw Memorial AME Zion Church. She was current Missionary President, Deaconess and choir member for Hood-Shaw Memorial AME Zion Church. She previously served as supply Secretary for the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society (WHOMS) of the New Haven District, Special Appointment Mission Education Director of the Boston District for 2 years and Appointed as a conference officer in the role of Secretary of WISE/ youth missionaries. Her spiritual devotion was matched by her generous spirit; she was known for her nurturing heart and for sharing wisdom with everyone she encountered. Judy embodied the essence of a virtuous woman—respected as a leader, mentor, wife, sister, aunt, cousin—and above all else, as a mother.

She found joy in many hobbies that brought people together: bowling with friends and family, decorating cakes with creativity and care, cooking meals that nourished both body and soul, and participating wholeheartedly in church activities. Her presence was a blessing to those around her—always giving, always guiding.

Judy is survived by her beloved husband Tyrone Johnson; her sons Vaughn Johnson, Tyrone Johnson II, William Berry, Corey Berry, and Harold Berry; her daughters Tonya Ferrell, Tanya Davis, Mahalia Berry, Judy Berry and Denise Berry-Johnson; sisters Sandra Sebastian and Barbara Davis; brothers Raymond Gonsalves Jr., Kevin Vines, and Marvin Fowler.

She now joins in eternal rest her parents, Julia Santos-Gonsalves (Mahalia Berry-Gonsalves) and Raymond Gonsalves Sr.; her son Keith Ferrell; sisters Gladys Weeden, Donna Peterson, Denise Berry; and brothers Francisco Gonsalves, Thomas Gonsalves, and Anthony Gonsalves.

Judy’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with love, wisdom, strength and above all with grace. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 2pm-5pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln. Burial private.
